"For the benefit of those who follow Miriam, a personal representative must file an inventory of the assets in the probate court with jurisdiction over the estate — it varies slightly from one state to the next, but the filing must usually be made in 90 days). For estate or inheritance tax purposes, you are also required to file evidence showing whether any tax is payable. Thus, appraisals of the assets showing their value must be made. The exact wording of the valuations does not matter. What does matter is a clear identification of the person giving the valuation, his or her credentials to make the valuation, and a clear "price" for each asset or group of assets."

"Hope this is right. Dad died last month leaving a big collection of books. I’d no idea he had so many or that some of them would turn out to be so valuable. Its been a real headache to get them valued. There just isnt the spare cash to pay an attorney to do eberything for me to deal with the estate so I paid this dealer to value the books by letting him keep three of the best. He signed this form. I changed it round so it would fit. I hope it gets accepted when I file all the papers. This is all so stressful. "
